Vauxhall launches new hot hatch - 19/04/2005

Vauxhall has announced the launch of its new Astra VXR, which will hit the UK market in September with prices beginning at £18,995.

The car boasts an engine capable of 240PS and 152mph performance, which ensures that it is more than able to compete with its rivals despite costing significantly less.

The Vauxhall Astra VXR hot hatch has not sacrificed quality for raw speed however; the car comes fully equipped with air conditioning, chunky 18-inch wheels and side curtain airbags.

A 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, with a maximum turnover of 5,600 rpm and a six-speed gearbox, powers the car, and is capable of pushing the car from nought to 60 in just 6.2 seconds.

Vauxhall VXR brand manager Stuart Harris welcomed the addition of the new car: "We're very proud of this latest addition to the VXR line-up."

He continued: "We've already seen a huge amount of interest in the model, and we're excited about getting the first cars out to customers. We believe no hot hatchback can compare to the Astra VXR in terms of driver appeal or value for money."
