Record month for Mazda - 20/04/2005

March was a record-breaking month for Mazda, as it shifted a record 9,356 vehicles in the month.

Total sales for the first quarter of 2005 were put at 14,591 vehicles in the UK, which means that this country now represents the second-biggest market for Mazda cars in Europe.

Mazda puts its success down to increased sales of the Mazda3, which sold 3,676 models in March, up by 79 per cent from March 2004's figures of 2,056.

The Mazda3 was the ninth best-selling car in its segment, seeing off competition from the Citroen C4, the Nissan Almera and BMW 1 series.

"This was an astonishing success for Mazda3 which achieved 3.2 per cent share of the total C segment," said Mazda Motors UK Sales Director Rob Lindley.

He went on: " It has been phenomenal for us, the best ever sales we have seen for a single model in any month. The new TV advert for Mazda3 really seemed to capture the imagination of our customers and drove a huge amount of interest."
