Toyota scoops international award - 22/04/2005

Toyota has been awarded the 2005 Queen's Award for international trade in recognition of its outstanding contribution to British exports between 2002 and 2004.

The company nearly doubled its overseas export value to around the figure of £2 billion as it reached out into new markets like Japan.

Toyota also raised it revenue in developing markets like those in Eastern Europe and Russia.

The company's plant in Derbyshire export the Avensis and Corolla models to 80 markets internationally. The majority (70 per cent) went to European markets and just over 10 per cent of all cars produced at the plant went to Japan.

Toyota's engine plant in Deeside exports parts to other Toyota plants in three continents.

Overall, the company's net contribution to the UK economy is more than £400 million a year.

It is currently investing £50 million to increase the capacity of its UK plants to around 285,000 cars a year. Two new diesel engines will shortly be added to its Avensis range.
