New Ford navigation technology set for release - 29/04/2005

Following successful trials on the Ford Galaxy, Ford is ready to launch its new telematics and navigation system in the European market.

The new technology will download personalised route onto the vehicle's navigation system from a series of centralised databases.

These individual routing recommendations will take into account things like school zones, construction projects and outdoor events that are likely to provide a hindrance to the road-user.

Rudi Kunze, chief technical officer, Ford of Europe, and head of the Ford Research Center in Aachen explained: "This will substantially contribute to our efforts to reduce traffic congestion and the noise and environmental pollution going along with it. At the same time, overall productivity will be enhanced if people spend less time stuck in traffic jams."

He went on: "We regard dynamic navigation as a milestone towards intelligent, effective traffic management"
