Nissan's New Roadster carries off best cabriolet award - 04/03/2005

Nissan's 350Z Roadster has scooped its 42nd automotive accolade at the Geneva Motor Show.

An international panel of automotive journalists adjudged it to be the deserving recipient of the "Cabriolet of the Year" award.

Accepting the award, Nissan's project design director Tsunehiro Kunimoto told those gathered: "It is a great honour to receive this wonderful award at the Geneva Motor Show."

"The first customers will soon take delivery of the 350Z Roadster in Europe and we are very optimistic that it will prove to be as popular and successful as it has been in the US and Japan," he added.

The convertible two-seater Roadster is powered by the same 3.5-litre V6 VQ engine found the Coupe.

It's capable of 280PS of power and 363Nm of torque, powering the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.

The electric folding soft-top mechanism either lowers or raises the roof in 20 seconds.
