Car maker Mazda is hoping to get official recognition for a world record this week.

A new advertisement in Tokyo is thought to be the biggest ever beating the previous record held by an ad in the Italian capital, Rome.

The Mazda ad features 60 family portraits and measures 311 metres in length, the JCNN news agency reports.

Mazda has filed a request with the Guinness Book of Records for official recognition.

The ad will be on display in the Art Road, an underground walkway leading to Tokyo Station until the end of the month.
