Honda set to launch new engine technology- 21/04/2005
Honda has announced it is introducing new engine technology which will offer ease of use, fuel efficiency and quiet operation.
The Honda iGX engines are intelligent computer controlled general purpose engines which feature for the first time in the power equipment industry an integrated electronic control unit (ECU).
The ECU features an STR governor system that controls functions including starting, throttle, ignition timing and diagnostics.
It enables drive-by-wire remote control operation of the engine, while the engine speed can be programmed and varied based on the equipment application's load and speed requirements.
The company claims its new model is ideally suited for a wide range of commercial and residential power equipment applications.
The engines will be released in the UK through Honda engine distributors this summer.
The iGX technology is also environmentally friendly, resulting in lower fuel consumption, lower emissions, and lower noise through reduced total engine running time and engine speed.
It could also be beneficial to fleet managers, since it is reportedly easy for inexperienced users to operate, eliminating the need for manual manipulation of the choke and throttle which the company says makes it ideal for rental applications.
