Vauxhall and Saab sign up to ELV scheme - 06/04/2005

Both Vauxhall and Saab have signed up to the ELV Autogreen vehicle recycling scheme, which means that manufacturers will take responsibility for their cars at the end of their lives.

The ten year agreement means that owners of Vauxhalls and Saabs will be able to take their cars to designated ELV sites when they are no longer serviceable.

Ian Gaskin, spokesperson for Autogreen, said: "This is phase one of our network, the first 50 sites that we have strategically chosen based on their location. All the sites have licences and have been approved by the Environment Agency. This is just the start of our network, it will inevitably grow."

Mr Gaskin hopes that, once more contracts are agreed, potential ELV savings will be shared. "We will then sit down and work out where our shortfalls are, then we will add to our network to ensure that we can fulfil the demands of the ELV regulations, this will probably involve adding new sites."
