Published Date: 17th Nov 2015

Mazda have an array of flagship model available for the new 16 plate in March

One such model is the Mazda 3 available on the new March 16 plate; it has been competing successfully against the Ford Focus, Volkswagen Golf and Audi A3 for the last decade. A new Mazda 3 is on the Christmas shopping list for a lot of people, due to the original styling, fuel efficiency and in-car technology.

Mazda have been at the forefront of car design and innovation for the last 25 years, the Mazda MX-5 being there most prolific and iconic brain child. Newer models include the Mazda 2, Mazda 6, Mazda CX-5, Mazda CX-3 and the car we are focusing on today – The New Mazda 3

Inspired by Mazda’s eye-catching KODO – Soul of Motion design language, the Mazda3 is built to raise expectations from first sight. Car’s rarely have such a vast contrast in design between an outgoing model and its successor. The new Mazda 3’s flowing curves, sculpted surfaces and prominent body volumes replace the old dusty looks of old.

There are marked improvements in terms of styling, transforming the new Mazda 3 into one of the hatchback class’s best-looking representatives.

comparison

The Mazda 3 is a smooth customer regardless of which version you choose, as there are now two to choose from. The Mazda 3 hatchback is just 5mm longer than the previous one, and 40mm wider, but its roof is 20mm lower than the outgoing model, which contributes to a low drag coefficient of 0.275. Meanwhile, the car’s wheelbase has increased by 60mm, to 2700mm.

Mazda 3 Engines

Mazda's SkyActiv technology has a 100% steel construction, 60% of it is either high or ultra-high strength, and this makes for a 30% improvement in stiffness.

UK buyers are given a choice of the 99bhp 1.5, 118bhp 2.0 and 163bhp 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engines – they all run Mazda’s very high 14:1 compression ratio – or the latest 148bhp twin-turbo 2.2-litre diesel. This engine is a very popular choice for the mpg conscious customer.

Mazda’s 2.2 litre diesel engine matches the Volkswagen Golf’s 2.0 TDI on CO2 emissions, and surpasses it on torque by almost 20%. By beating the Golf on towing power, while matching it on emissions is a great achievement for the SkyActiv team.

Mazda has claimed that its 2.2-litre SkyActiv-D engine has the best compression ratio of any mass-production diesel car engine on the planet, boasting a figure of 14:1. Most hatchback units of similar size run a compression ratio of more than 16:1.

Mazda 3 Safety

The Lane Departure Warning System also tells you if you’re about to leave your lane. And our Emergency Stop Signalling System flashes your hazard lights if you suddenly brake hard.ncap rating
