Published Date: 16th Dec 2015

When buying a new car – you think of how much you want to spend, what engine and what make of car and colour is not the most pressing matter until you decide these first. But you need to know that colour plays a part in re-sale value as well.

Just 1% of men or 3% of women drivers in the UK - say that colour is important when buying a new car online or at your local dealer, thanks to AA research.

Colour can Matter

Many car buyers’ think that colour isn’t a big deal. But if you dare to choose the wrong colour, this colour affects the money you’ll get when you come to re-sell it.

The most popular option has been metallic paint for the last 10 years, because it looks much better than the solid alternatives, and your car still has that new car look when you come to sell it..

Generally you will pay £500 for metallic paint – depending on make and model, your car could be up to £2000 more to the buyer, just one year later, this is according to Glass's valuation Information Services.

If you have a convertible or sports car, the difference can be even greater. Metallic versions may fetch up to £4,000 more than those with solid paint, and that’s just one year later.
