Toyota’s small hatchback supermini features an entirely hybrid powered range and is built on a new GA-B platform. Toyota say the new Yaris has been built from the ground up to be the world’s safest small car with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) as standard across the range.
2020 Yaris Running Costs & Residual Value
Residual value forecast is particularly good, with the Yaris expected to fare better than its direct rivals, it could retain over 51% of its value after three years/36,000 miles.
The new hybrid powertrain is more powerful, 114bhp compared with 98bhp of the older hybrid powertrain and it returns better economy figures too.
Fuel economy can be up to 69mpg with low CO2 emissions of 92 - 98g/km of CO2 (WLTP combined), moving it a tax band lower than the old/outgoing model, making it a great option as small business vehicle.
Toyota say you could save up to 22% on running costs compared with the old Yaris and if you are doing a lot of around town driving you will be running in full electric mode frequently (Toyota say up to 80% of the time in urban driving).
The Yaris is more fun to drive than its predecessor too, it feels punchy, handles well and is a great around town runner, 0-62mph should be achievable in around 9.7 seconds.
2020 Toyota Yaris Trim Levels and Specs
The new 4th generation Yaris is available in four trim levels: the Icon, Design, Dynamic and Excel, there is also a limited Launch Edition model which will offer a similar spec the top grade Dynamic/ Excel models and feature unique two-tone exterior.
Entry-level Yaris Icon models are pretty-well equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels, power adjustable and heated door mirrors. Inside there is a 7-inch touchscreen with smartphone mirroring support, front power operated windows, electric parking brake and automatic air con for comfort.
Driver tech and safety aids and generous too on Icon models, with a reversing camera, automatic headlights, and rain sensing wipers. You also get Toyota’s eCall as standard, which contact call the emergency services automatically in the event of an accident.
Toyota Safety Sense is standard; a collection of safety tech that includes a front radar system with pre-collision assist (it can automatically apply the brakes to prevent a forward collision). It also includes traffic sign recognition which can read and alert you of speed limits or no overtaking zones. Also included are high beam assist and a lane departure warning system that can alert you if your drifting out of your lane on the motorway.
Yaris Design trim builds on the entry-level Icon with 16-inch machined alloy wheels, a larger 8-inch touchscreen, ‘binocular’ driver instrument display, LED front and rear lights, rear privacy glass, power operated rear windows and you can add a panoramic roof as an optional extra.
New Yaris Dynamic trim adds the following to the Design trim spec; larger 17-inch alloy wheels, front sports seats, black part synthetic leather interior, smart entry/push button engine start, a premium JBL sound system, dual zone air con. You can add two-tone paint or the City Pack as an optional extra.
Yaris Excel trim adds the following to the Design model spec; 17-inch machined face alloy wheels, front sports seats, light coloured part synthetic leather interior, smart entry/push button engine start, dual zone air con, auto-folding door mirrors and some additional driver aids, including blind spot monitoring and intelligent clearance sonars with automatic braking. You can also add the Tech Pack and panoramic sunroof as optional extras.
The special edition launch model matches the spec of the Dynamic model with some extra goodies like auto-folding door mirrors, blind spot monitoring, a 10-inch colour head-up display, unique blue ambient interior lighting and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror. It comes in a unique, eye-catching, red and black two-tone exterior.
