Renault announce new hatchback for emerging markets, pricing for India released

Born from a concept that Renault have been toying with for the past few years, the Kwid seems to be aimed at the A-segment Hatch category.

The car represents a long standing relationship between Nissan and Renault, which benefits both car-makers in terms of costs and resources. This is similar to the VW Group’s setup, sharing design, engines and ideas.

The new Renault Kwid is pleasing on the eye and looks much like a mini Kadjar or Nissan Qashqai in the ways of styling and proportions. The Kwid gets a generous 7” infotainment system situated in the centre of the Dashboard, together with a new digital instrument cluster. No interior dimensions are available as of yet but Renault are promising top class boot and cabin space and quality.

Therre has been much talk concerning the Renault Kwid’s engine and the details, new model will get a 0.8 petrol 57 bhp engine. This seems dinky, but for such a little car it will be more than enough to keep Renault’s latest city car chugging along.

India will be the KWID's main market; Renault explained that this is an “international model” so it will be sold in other countries while details about a Euro-spec Dacia-badged model are not available at this point.

The Renault KWID is due to go on sale in India in late 2015 and will cost around 3 and 4 lakhs (roughly £3000 to £4000).
