The new Ford Focus has taken the coveted car of the year award at this year

Auto Express' decision suggests that the new Ford Focus, with its more refined and comfortable drive is not going to relinquish that top spot at anytime soon.

Ford are even hoping that new Focus sales will be given a further boost in 2005 with the sporty Focus ST model.

The ST is set to replace the startlingly quick Ford Focus RS for 2005 and while it is set to be a little more accessible than the RS, Ford nerds are tuning as you read to ensure that it is a serious rival to the impressive new VW Golf GTi and new Vauxhall Astra VXR

The new Ford Focus will continue to span a number of markets with three, four and five door models available as well as the C-MAX Multi-Activity version.

Figures released in May showed that Ford made more sales than any other single manufacturer in the UK with a 15.2 per cent share of the market.

With the new Focus, a new Mondeo range and a new MPV all due for release this year new Ford car sales could be higher than ever in 12 months time.
