Toyota is adding a new model to its Crossover/SUV range, the Aygo X, which will be its smallest SUV inspired vehicle. More details of the new model are set to be released in November.
Toyota say the ‘X’ is to be pronounced ‘Cross’ to indicate the vehicle is a Crossover with the features you’d expect like an elevated driving position and chunky wheels/tyres.
Built on the same GA-B platform as the new Yaris, the Aygo X will replace the small city car the Aygo, bringing a new SUV flavour and funky styling. This move reflects the level of demand for SUV/Crossover vehicles, even in the small vehicle segment where just a few years ago there were very small Crossovers.
First looks at the new Aygo X concept reveal a two-tone design, exterior styling features include a sporty/sloping roof and eye-catching looks, some of the ‘funky’ design aspects are reminiscent of the Nissan Juke, which was one of the first small compact SUVs to be available.
While Toyota are squarely marketing the car as a small urban SUV, it will include some features for the active lifestyle, like an integrated bike holder/mount and a door mirror-mounted action camera.
