July saw a very slight increase in New Car Registration of 0.1percent, this positive news shows that the brexit vote has had limited effect on the UK car market.
Passenger cars saw a small increase last month as UK car registrations increased by 0.1%.
Ford Fiesta tops the list again, with the Vauxhall Corsa and Astra coming second and third.
The need for AFVs remained healthy by rising 24.7% and increasing its market share.
July saw monthly new car registrations steady after record 2015 and strong start to 2016.
UK new car sales saw a slight rise in July, up 0.1% for the month, according to figures released on the 4th August 2016 by the SMMT. Over 1.5 Million new cars have been registered so far in 2016, which is 2.8% higher than 2015 following a strong first 3 months of the year.
Last month stayed with the trend seen throughout 2016 with lower private registrations were offset by a sharp increase in fleet purchases, which saw an increase of 5.0% in July. Demand for alternatively fuelled vehicles (AFV’s) kept up the pressure on petrol and diesel fueled cars with a big increase of 24.7% compared with the same month in 2015.
Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive, announced, “After a healthy start to 2016 and record registrations in 2015 the market is showing signs of cooling. The automotive market is a vital part of the British economy and it’s important government delivers the economic conditions which instil business and consumer confidence. With low interest rates, attractive finance options and exciting new models coming to the showrooms, the market still has lots to offer customers.”
