Ecoboost Engine Technology

Available in 100 PS, 125 PS and 140 PS offerings, the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine powers one if five Ford vehicles in Europe and is available for a number of Ford models including the  Ka, Fiesta, Focus and even the Mondeo. Of all new Ford Fiesta models sold 2 out of 5 are 1.0 Ecoboost models.

The 1.0 Ecoboost boasts excellent  fuel efficiency and impressive performance, has bagged it’s eighth award in four years at the 2015 International Engine of the Year Awards. For the fourth year in a row, the Ford 1.0-litre EcoBoost was named “Best Engine Under 1.0-litre.” It was judged the class winner based on drivability, performance, economy, refinement and technology – by a panel of automotive journalists, from 35 countries. Last year, the 1.0 litre EcoBoost became the first engine to be named overall International Engine of the Year for three consecutive years and was in 2012 named “Best New Engine.

Ford Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost

Fiesta EcoboostYou could say the Fiesta and the Ecoboost engine are perfect for each other. The Fiesta makes the relationship easy, its the best-selling car in the UK for a good reason. As supermini’s go its the most fun to drive and offers enough equipment and comfort t to keep most people happy.

We like the new Fiesta Zetec model but if you’d like to go a bit more sporty and don’t mind paying the extra you go for the Zetec S which offers the additional of sports suspension and some other nice touches. The standard Zetec model offers 15 inch alloy wheels, front fog lights with chrome trim, quickclear heated windscreen, Ford Sync, leather trimmed steering wheel and handbrake and chrome finish on upper door line.

The Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost comes in two guises a 100PS and 125PS, we highly recommend the 125PS which is more fun to drive with emissions still at a low 99g/km and combined mpg of 43mpg. It boasts a healthy top speed of 122mph and 0-62mph in a fun 9.4 seconds.

Ford Focus 1.0 Ecoboost

The Focus Ecoboost was the first family car to dip below 100 g/km CO2 emissions in 2013. The current  Ford Focus 1.0 Ecoboost offering is a 100PS 5 speed manual or 125PS 6 speed manual. Focus Ecoboost

We like the new Focus Zetec model (Fords best-seller) which offers some sporty styling features and boasts enough equipment to satisfy most people with 16 inch 5x2-spoke alloy wheels, quickclear heated windscreen, front fog lights, sports style seats, leather trimmed steering wheel, Ford DAB system and halogen headlights with black surround.

The most frugal Zetec 1.0 Ecoboost (100ps) with start/stop technology offers emissions of just 99 g/km and road tax exemption with a top speed of 112 mph and 0-62mph in 12.5 seconds. If you’d like a bit more power the 125PS engine offers a top speed of 120 mph and 0-62 mph in 11 seconds, emissions are still super-low at 108 g/km.

Ford Mondeo 1.0 Ecoboost

Mondeo EcoboostYes there really is a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine in a Mondeo, a tiny 1.0 litre engine in a generous size family car. Its not so sluggish the 125bhp 1.0 Ecoboost manages 0.62mph in 12 seconds, OK not the nippiest you’ll ever drive but if your the kind of person that wants efficiency over performance then the Ford Mondeo 1.0 Ecoboost could be for you.
