Chinese Man Buys car with over half a million coins

A man in china who works at a petrol station has bought a new car using over 600,000 coins and around 20,000 bank notes.

The buyer is believed to be a Mr Gan, he passed the huge payload of cash over the counter of a new car dealer in the north-east city of Shenyang. Every coin had a value of one yuan, which is around 10p. Imagine going into your local car showroom and paying for your car in 10p’s, but for this petrol station worker, he had no problem taking 4 tonnes of change into the showroom. The cash took up more than 4 metres of the showroom floor space.

The Gentleman who had amassed this huge stockpile of coins and notes (Mr Gam), explained that, he had managed to save the money so easily because of the lack of banks in the suburbs – where the petrol station is located. He said “we didn't deposit the coins and decided to use them to buy a car for our company.”

The gentleman pre- warned the staff at the new car dealership in advance regarding his unexpected payment method, and all the coins and notes were neatly wrapped in small manageable parcels. It still caused a problem though - employees took more than an hour to move all the money into the showroom. They then had the unbelievable challenge of taking it all to the bank.
