RAV4 Plug-in Engine Performance & Economy
The new intelligent electric All-Wheel Drive RAV4 plug-in combines the same 2.5-litre petrol engine found in the self-charging model with a larger lithium-ion battery to deliver the best of both worlds. The battery resides under the floor meaning boot space is not sacrificed.
With 302bhp it packs a punch and feels quick of the mark (0-62mph in 6.2 seconds), which is hard to match even with conventional powered SUVs. At the same time the new RAV plug-in delivers ultra-low emissions under 30g/km.
More good news for drivers doing frequent short daily return journeys is that the full electric range is a class-leading 37 miles which will mean exceptionally low running costs for a lot of people doing relatively short commutes each day. The RAV4 can also do up to 84mph in electric mode.
The RAV4 features distinctive/strong exterior looks, entry-levels models get 17-inch alloy wheels, higher grades get 18-inch alloys and all models get privacy glass, shark fin antenna and electrically adjustable/heated door mirrors as standard.
The bolds looks of the RAV4 may not be quite as radical as the Toyota C-HR’s ‘Batmobile’ chiselled looks but it certainly catches the eye and stands out in a very crowded medium-sized SUV segment.
Entry-level models get premium cloth upholstery, while Dynamic trim gets synthetic leather and top-grade Excel trim gets full leather interior in a choice of three colours: beige, black or grey.
The interior feels classy, there’s plenty of soft touch surfaces and premium quality materials and the dashboard and controls and logically laid out, all models get a leather steering wheel and gear stick.
The centrepiece of the dashboard is the 8-inch touchscreen (standard on all models) with Bluetooth, DAB radio, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay and My Toyota Connected Services. Skip the entry-level Icon model and you get integrated navigation and voice control.
For comfort, all models get dual zone climate control and higher-grade Dynamic and Excel models get heated front seats.
There are plenty of driver aids/tech too, all models get as standard rear parking sensors, rear parking camera, intelligent adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition and automatic high beam. Higher grade models get additional tech like rear cross traffic alert and blind spot monitoring.
