The 2020 Octavia’s exterior makeover means a lower roofline and it is longer than the outgoing model, giving it a sleeker look. The hatchback model benefits from the re-design with a more coupe-like look.

The 4th generation Octavia is 15mm wider, hatchback models are 19mm longer whilst estate versions are 22mm longer.

Interior Boasts More Upmarket Feel and Improved Materials

Inside the new Octavia you’ll find a host of improvements. There’s much more of a premium feel with more soft touch materials, chrome trim and LED ambient lighting.

The LED ambient lighting offers a choice of ten colours that can be combined to work in multi-colour unison, delivering some impressive effects that enhance the dashboard, door panels and interior.

The Octavia’s 10.25-inch optional digital cockpit display has been upgraded and the infotainment has been improved too.

Lower grade models get the 8.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system whilst higher grades get the impressive free-standing 10-inch display.  Smartphone integration in the form of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard as are new/familiar smartphone gestures to control the infotainment system. As you move up the trim-levels navigation and the new voice assistant ‘Laura’ are available.

Combine the new digital cockpit with the larger 10-inch infotainment system and the new LED ambient lighting effects and you get an almighty impressive dashboard. There’s also a new head-up display, available as an option it completes the high-tech feel.

Other options that can add to the levels of comfort inside the cabin are a heated steering wheel, massage seats and 3-zone climate control.

The 2.0 litre petrol models come with all-wheel drive and a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission, the 2.0 litre models are capable of 0.62mph in a fraction over 7 seconds.

The new Skoda Octavia plug-in hybrid version, available for the first time combines a 1.4-litre petrol engine with 101bhp electric motor.

The new plugin-hybrid is equipped with a 6-speed DSG transmission and Its nippy enough, Skoda say with its 201bhp of power, it can achieve 0.62mph in 7.9 seconds and has a full electric range of up to 34 miles.  Bear in mind boot space takes a hit if you plump for a plug-in hybrid model.

A 2.0 diesel is available in 114bhp,148bhp and 197bhp versions, the latter is only available with DSG gearbox and is the nippy option with 295lb ft of torque, its capable of 0-62mph in 7.1 seconds.  There’s no mild hybrid diesel option available.

The MK4 Skoda Octavia is a fantastic upgrade on the older model, the interior has taken huge strides and impressed us immensely. If you’re in the market for a mid-sized hatchback or estate in 2020 then you should put the MK4 Octavia on your shortlist.
