Vauxhall Corsa Hybrid at Frankfurt

Published Date: 13th Sep 2007

Vauxhall is set to introduce a concept Corsa Hybrid at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September. It is then set to be available to order from this December.

The concept is powered by a GM Hybrid system and diesel technology. The Corsa Hybrid concept will only need 3,75 litres of diesel per 100km and emits just 99 grams of CO2 per km. It is based on the 55kW/75 hp Corsa 1.3 CDTI and uses a lithium-ion battery. The efficient diesel engine is switched off by the hybrid system when the car stops and is restarted when the brake pedal is released. As more power is needed the engine will be able to give significantly higher torque.

The Vauxhall Corsa concept car is just one of the innovations being presented by Vauxhall at the Motor Show. Also being presented is the Vauxhall Vectra Flexpower, which has a 2.0 litre turbo engine, and is designed to use a bioethanol/gasoline mix.

Vauxhall will soon have new ecoFLEX variants that will have the lowest CO2 emissions across the range of Vauxhall models. By the end of 2007 these will be available in the Vauxhall Meriva, the Vauxhall Astra and the Vauxhall Zafira.
