New Hyundai i30 Launched

Published Date: 25th Mar 2007

Hyundai has recently unveiled its new hatchback, the i30, at the Geneva Motor Show. Designed to rival the likes of the popular Ford Focus, VW Golf and Vauxhall Astra, the new i30 is based on the same platform as the new Kia Cee’d.

The new i30 will be available from Summer 2007 and will come in a choice of 3 petrol and 3 diesel engine - with either manual or automatic transmissions. It will initially be available as a hatchback but an estate version and high-performance models will also be introduced at a later date.

Thomas Bürkle, Hyundai European Chief Designer, said: ‘The i30 offers dynamic and sporty styling, whilst retaining the chic and elegant touch of the Arnejs concept car.’

With the launch of the i30, Hyundai will be changing its naming strategy for its models. The new alphanumeric names will display a clearer technology-orientation and be closely linked to Hyundai's brand promise of 'Quality, Self-assurance, and Inspiring'. Their smallest, city car, will be named i10, the supermini – i20, the family hatchback – i30 and so on. Current names such as Accent and Santa Fe will be phased out as new models are introduced.
