The new 2013 Mazda6 has been available since late January following it's debut at the Paris Motor Show in September 2012, so what can you expect from this third generation new Mazda 6
New Mazda 6 Efficiency
Two diesel and two petrol engines are available, the 2.0 litre petrol unit (143bhp or 163bhp option) and the 2.2 litre diesel (148bhp or 173bhp option). The new Mazda 6 makes use of Mazda's Skyactiv technology which was first introduce in the CX-5 model, in a nutshell it reduces the weight of the vehicle and increases overall efficiency of the engine and there is Mazda's i-ELOOP the new brake energy regeneration system, fitted as standard on most models this new system can boost the vehicle's economy by up to 10%, these features join the Mazda i-STOP idle-stop system. All this helps to deliver what could prove to be Mazda's trump card; the 148bhp diesel unit has a combined fuel economy of 67.3mpg and emissions of just 108g/km which puts the vehicle in a lower tax band than even the cleanest Ford Mondeo. Based on these CO2 figures the new Mazda 6 can boast best in class.
New Mazda 6 Safety
The the new gen Mazda 6 comes as standard with front, side and curtain airbags. The SKYACTIV-Body is a class leader in impact protection thanks to highly rigid impact-absorbing materials and structure and a hi-tech design which disperses energy away from the passengers inside the vehicle on impact. Further safety features include cruise control, a lane departure warning system and a brake support system which alerts the driver if they are too close to the car in front, and brakes if it detects an imminent collision. Then there's the Smart City Brake Support (SCSB) system which comes as standard on the Mazda6 SE-L and Sport models, the system will bring the car to a complete halt of it detects an imminent collision this system works at speeds between 2.5mph and 19mph.
New Mazda6 Looks
We've always been a fan of how the Mazda6 looks. The third gen makes some fine adjustments and with subtle lines and sculpting the vehicle is an exceptional looker! New colours will be available; Soul Red Metallic, Blue Reflex Mica, Meteor Grey Mica and Jet Black Mica.
New Mazda 6 Interior
The new interior features improved materials and there's a clear view of the instruments that represents a major improvement on the previous Mazda6. There's an infotainment touch-screen systems which in truth still needs some refinement and can have a number of features depending on the model you choose. At the front there is ample space for the driver and front passenger and the rear features plenty room that should accommodate the majority of people.
New Mazda 6 Equipment Highlights
The entry-level new Mazda 6 SE model includes daytime running lights, electric door mirrors, keyless start, air-con, a six speaker audio system with USB and bluetooth support plus the touch-screen 'infotainment' system. Next up is the new Mazda6 SE-L model which adds automatic windscreen wipers, climate control plus front and rear parking sensors. The new Mazda 6 Sport model adds 19" alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlights and leather trim.
