Urban drivers pay highest car insurance

Drivers in city areas tend to pay higher than average car insurance, according to latest figures from Tesco Car Insurance.

Furthermore, people from the north-west can expect to pay £541 on average for their premiums, while those in London pay £563.

This compares with the national average of £442, which Tesco suggests is partly due to drivers in built-up areas being likely to encounter more problems.

Allan Burns, a spokesman for Tesco Car Insurance, commented: "Unfortunately for motorists in the north-west and London, high claim rates, car crime and sheer volume of traffic are forcing insurers to push up premiums in these highly urban areas."

He added: "While motorists in the North West are paying above the national average, the good news is that they could save a significant amount of money simply by shopping around."

The same can be said of drivers in other parts of the country who can save considerable amounts by looking for bargain deals.

Consumers in the south-west could save up to £142 on their premiums by shopping around, while those in Scotland could be £159 better off if they were to seek the best deals available.
