The very first, new Volvo XC60 Rolls off the production line

The Swedish company’s very first 2017 new XC60 rolled off the production line shortly before lunch time. The first customer car is an AWD T5 Inscription in the Crystal White, see for yourself below.

“This is a proud day for everyone at the plant,” said Magnus Nilsson, vice president of the Torslanda plant. “We have worked hard in recent weeks and months to prepare Torslanda for this latest new Volvo model, and now we are ready to start delivering new XC60s to customers.”

The new car pictured is the successor to the old XC60, the outgoing model managed a nine year lifespan and was the best selling mid-sized SUV across Europe and sold over a million units globally. The XC60 is responsible for around 30 per cent of Volvo’s total worldwide sales.

Following the XC90, S90 and V90 the new XC60 is built upon Volvo’s new SPA platform. This new architecture alongside other investments has made the company grow creating more jobs in production and research and development.  

Volvo, continue with their safety push and claims the new car is one of the safest ever made and packed with new technology. Steer Assist has been added to the city safety system alongside oncoming lane mitigation that works with the steer assist and the Blind spot information system (BLIS) to reduce to risk of lane changing collisions.

Pilot Assist is another new feature on the XC60, Volvo’s advanced semi autonomous driving assistance system. This will manage the steering braking, and acceleration on well marked roads up to 80 miles per hour.

The T8 twin engine hybrid drive train will be available next to the usual petrol T5, Diesel D4 and D5. The T8 features plug in charging and 407bhp with a 0-60 time of 5.3 seconds.

Clean Zone is a new four zone climate control unit that will remove harmful pollutants and particles from the outside before delivering the fresh air to the cabin.
