The Nations Favourite New Car Colour

Published Date: 24th Jan 2023

When it comes to stylish cars, the UK is leading the way with a variety of eye-catching colour palettes. New car buyers have shown a clear preference for grey as the nation's favourite new car colour for five years running, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

In 2022, a quarter of all new cars registered in Britain were grey, and this was reflected across nearly every region and county except for Scottish Borders, where blue came out on top.

But why has grey been so popular for new car owners?

Many drivers love grey because it offers an effortless sophistication without being too loud or bland. Grey can be seen as a timeless option representing class and practicality, making it a great choice for business vehicles. Furthermore, grey is incredibly versatile - it pairs well with other more vibrant colours, like reds or blues, while still being able to stand alone and make a statement.

Other popular colours in the past year include black, white and silver, each proving their worth in terms of style and practicality. Black leads the pack with 12%, followed by white at 10% and silver at 8%. Despite these colours having some similar benefits to that of grey like sophistication, they don't possess the same level of versatility - making them slightly less appealing than grey for some drivers.

What about newly emerging trends? Blue is continuing its rise in popularity among younger generations – most likely due to its association with trustworthiness and dependability and its ability to easily accessorise with many other hues. Additionally, green has also recently seen an increase in demand – given its growing popularity amongst those looking for eco-friendly options; However, it still only accounts for around 2% of total registrations.

Overall, there are plenty of options to suit different tastes when choosing what colour your next vehicle should be – but none so popular as grey! When it comes down to timelessness, versatility and practicality, it’s no surprise that so many drivers choose this classic hue over any other shade available today.

  1. - Grey: Popular for its sophistication, timelessness and versatility.
  2. - Black: Favoured for its sleek look and appeal.
  3. - White: Great for those looking for clean lines and a vibrant feel.
  4. - Silver: Eye-catching yet subtle at the same time and good for long-term ownership.
  5. - Blue: Offering trustworthiness and dependability with the ability to accessorise, Scotland's best-selling colour in 2022.

Grey has been a popular choice for new car owners in the UK for five years, with a quarter of all new cars registered in Britain being grey in 2022. The colour offers an effortless sophistication without being too loud or bland. Its timelessness and versatility make it stand out compared to other more vibrant colours like reds or blues. Due to their sleek look and ability to be practical, black, white and silver are other popular shades that drivers favour. Newer trends like blue have been steadily increasing in popularity due to its trustworthiness and dependability. Green is also becoming a desired choice amongst those looking for eco-friendly options.

While there are many options out there, none can compete with the timelessness, versatility and practicality of grey when it comes to choosing the right colour for your next vehicle.
