New Volvo DRIVe Models

Published Date: 26th Sep 2008

Volvo will be unveiling some new economical diesel variants of their C30 Sports Coupe, S40 saloon and V50 Sportswagon at the Paris Motor Show this October.   All variants will emit less than 120g/km of CO2 and will be on sale in the UK from early 2009.  They will be identified by Volvo’s new DRIVe logo to show their improved efficiency.

They will all offer excellent economy in fuel consumption.   For example, the C30 model will achieve 64.2mpg whilst the S40 can give 62.8mpg.   Emission levels in the C30 will be just 115g/km and 118g/km for both the S40 and the V50.

Volvo Cars President and CEO, Fredrik Arp, commented ‘We wanted to demonstrate that low CO2 ratings are not solely the preserve of small diesel cars.   By offering the Volvo V50 with emission levels below 120g/km, we are also making it possible for families and other customers who require extra space to make an active pro-environmental choice’.

Volvo has achieved these reductions in CO2 emissions and in fuel economy by assessing the cars’ total potential for more efficient, economical driving.   Volvo then optimised within 4 areas – reduced air resistance; lower rolling resistance; higher ratios and more efficient driveline.
