New Toyota Concept Car at Detroit Motor Show
Published Date: 14th Jan 2007
Production of the original Toyota Supra ended 10 years ago but Toyota unveils its new concept Supra coupe model (FT-HS) at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2007.
This new hybrid coupe concept Supra was designed in California and it’s claimed it can reach 0-62 in approximately 4 seconds. It has a 292bhp 3.5 litre V6 engine driving the front wheels plus an electric motor and battery pack, giving a total 400bhp.
Toyota claim this can help the FT-HS achieve V8 or even supercharged V8 performance. With the additional option of electrically assisted stop-start to further reduce pollutants, Toyota designed this as the first ‘green’ sports car which can achieve supercar performance.
The concept Supra FT-HS has several interesting design features including a roof panel that drops down and retracts to cover the rear seats, thus changing it into a roadster.
