The supercharged new Jaguar XKR is reportedly gearing up to be the fastest XK8 ever.

The sleek revised shape of the new Jaguar has won rave reviews in the motoring press, with a number of preview shots released and a planned launch at the Paris Motor Show in September 2006.

With a supercharged, 4.2-litre V8 engine and 550Nm of torque, the incoming XKR has an all-aluminium chassis and body and weighs around 90kg less than its predecessor, according to Auto Express.

The XK8 has deep front air intakes, a new six-speed automatic gearbox , steering wheel-mounted paddles and a tuned exhaust system. Overall, the fine tuning should result in a marked improvement in the previous model's 0-60mph in five seconds.

Jaguar is reportedly fitting its latest XKR model with two-stage traction and stability control, more supportive bucket-style seats and a six-CD changer with MP3 compatibility.
