New 2014 Toyota Verso

Published Date: 21st Jan 2014

The New 2014 Toyota Verso is to be the first Toyota to get a 1.6-litre, BMW-derived diesel engine, which brings emissions down to just 119g/km. This new engine will replace the 2.0-litre D-4D in the UK line-up, and is around 8% more efficient than the old engine, it has an expected fuel economy of 62.8mpg. The efficiency comes in part thanks to a stop-start system – the first to be put in any Verso.

The new engine is also much lighter 25kg to be exact; to counteract this slight change in weight, the Verso's spring settings have been tailored to make sure the ride comfort is consistent across the range.

Another one of the efficiency improvements of this new 1.6-litre engine is a slight reduction in speed and performance. The 1.6-litre is a little bit slower to 62mph, taking around 12.7 seconds compared with the previous engine's 11.3 second time. Top speed remains the same at 115mph.
The New Verso in addition gets a new trim level for 2014. The new Trend trim will edge towards the peak of the range, in between the Icon and the Excel models.

The Trend trim is easily noticeable due to its black C-pillar, bespoke designed five-spoke alloy wheels, front fog lights and tinted rear windows, it comes complete with Toyota Touch 2 with Go, which brings with it satellite navigation, connected services, The handy Google Street View and Tom Tom traffic data. It also benefits from parking sensors and a rear-facing camera.
