The London ULEZ Scrappage Scheme.

CLEANER CARS, FOR A CLEANER CAPITAL

Londoners can now get up to £2,000 for scrapping a car that doesn’t meet ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) requirements. This new ULEZ scrappage scheme is a great opportunity for Londoners looking to buy a ULEZ-compliant vehicle and help clean up the air in their city.

The ULEZ will be expanded on 29 August 2023, making it mandatory for all drivers living in one of London's 32 boroughs or the City of London to pay a daily charge of £12.50 if they drive in the capital with a non-compliant car. This ULEZ scrappage scheme gives drivers an alternative that helps them save money while contributing to cleaner air quality.

You can apply for up to £2,000 if you’re the owner of a pre-Euro 4 petrol or pre-Euro 6 diesel car registered within one of the 32 London boroughs or the City of London. Motorcycle owners can also receive up to £1,000 for scrapping their non-compliant motorcycle, and wheelchair-accessible vehicle owners can receive up to £5,000.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, is determined to push forward with ULEZ expansion plans, which Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has backed. The ULEZ is designed to reduce vehicle emissions and improve air quality in Greater London. Still, some concerns have been raised about its impact on people living in deprived areas and how it might cancel out any pay rises for nurses and teachers.

In response, the ULEZ scrappage scheme has been introduced as a way for those who may not be able to afford ULEZ-compliant vehicles even with the financial assistance available through the scheme - disabled people and those on a low income - to scrap their older, more polluting cars while still being able to access public transport as an alternative means of transportation around town.

Tradespeople who rely on vans or other commercial vehicles as part of their livelihood may have difficulty transitioning into ULEZ-compliant models; however, they will benefit from ULEZ standards as their places of work are likely located inside ULEZ boundaries too!

Live in one of London’s 32 boroughs or the City of London and would like to take advantage of this offer. You must meet certain eligibility criteria: you must be claiming one or more benefits such as Universal Credit, Armed Forces Independence Payment, Attendance Allowance, and more – check your current vehicle here – own an insured car with an up-to-date MOT certificate plus road tax that does not comply with Euro 4 (diesel) or Euro 6 (petrol) emission standards (check here if your car qualifies). If eligible, you can apply online.

This ULEZ scrappage scheme is an excellent opportunity not only aimed at helping lower-income families transition into greener options but also encouraging everyone else who owns an old diesel or petrol vehicle that doesn’t meet current emission standard requirements – no matter what their financial background – to take advantage of this option without taking a huge financial hit when buying ULEZ compliant models such electric cars which tend to be more expensive than their petrol counterparts..

Signing up for this generous offer could save you thousands while ensuring London stays free from toxic fumes!
