Goodwood 2014 Preview

Mercedes are to be the sponsor for this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, which opens on the 26th of June

 

The chequered flag has fallen on this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed at an exclusive launch event in London; with the Goodwood owner Lord March announcing that Mercedes will sponsor this year's show as the car manufacturer celebrates 120 years in motorsport.

Held from the 26th to the 29th of June, the theme for this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed will be ‘Addicted to Winning – The Unbeatable Champions of Motor Sport, ‘Celebrations of legendary drivers, teams and manufacturers from around the world.

This year’s show will also celebrate the centenary of Italian manufacturer Maserati. Some of its most successful racing cars will be showcased at this year’s Goodwood, this line-up includes the 1928 Maserati Tipo 26B and MC12 GT racer.

Lots of famous faces in motor sport including Sir Stirling Moss, Mark Webber, Jenson Button, Emerson Fittipaldi, John Surtees and Lewis Hamilton will all be visiting Goodwood. And also Sebastian Loeb, who will also be attempting to break the Goodwood hill climb lap record in his Pike’s Peak Peugeot 208 T16 racer.

Many new road cars that will tackling the formidable 1.16-mile hill climb will be a world debut from Honda’s new NSX prototype, along with the all new BMW M4 Cabriolet, a new special edition BMW M5, the new Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake and the latest Volvo V60 Polestar.

More important anniversaries to be celebrated at Goodwood will include 50 years since the classic Mini won its first Monte Carlo Rally. The 40th anniversary of McLaren’s maiden F1 crown will also be honoured and also 60 years of the Jaguar D-Type.
