Could we see a Digital Driving Licence on your smart phone in the future?

There is currently no timescale, as to when the new app will be out. The DVLA chief executive Oliver Morley has revealed a snippet of things to come from the Swansea based firm.
The picture card licence could be joined with a digital version of the paper counterpart which was scrapped back in June 2015
They have already mentioned that it will not completely replace the physical driving licence photo card, It will work alongside the digital version. They are focusing and making security of the app a priority.
The picture posted below on twitter by Oliver Morley shows the digital driving licence working in the my wallet section on the iphone for advanced security and encryption
Ben Wood who works for mobile communications analysts CCS Insight said: "Security has taken a significant step forward to support digital payments on phones, so the framework is in place for other secure applications, such as a digital driving licence.
"There are not many people in the UK that do not carry a smart phone with them every day, so it is a logical next step."
There have been other developments around the world with Iowa state in the USA trialling a digital ID and British bank note printer De La Rue working on a digital passport for your smart phone.
