Published Date: 14th Jan 2009
During a time of economic turbulence, Chevrolet UK has announced record sales of 18,372 cars in 2008. These sales in the UK contributed to the European sales record of over half a million cars being sold Europe for the first time since Chevrolet made its debut this side of the Atlantic in 2005.
Chevrolet also increased its market share in the UK from 0.76% in 2007 to 0.86% in 2008, with the company’s share of the retail market reaching an all-time high of 0.90%
Chevrolet launched 2 new models in 2008. The 3 and 5 door Aveo supermini replaced the Kalos whilst the 4 Door Epica family saloon offered value for money, expressive design and proven reliability. The Matiz remained the best-selling Chevrolet model. The success of these models contributed largely to the published record sales. This success is set to continue in 2009, with the launch of the all-new Cruze mid-size saloon later in the New Year. There are also new cars scheduled to come to market in 2010.
When asked to comment on the company’s success, Chevrolet UK MD Mark Terry said; “The 2008 figures represent a great result for Chevrolet and show that in a challenging economic climate consumers put value for money first. With the new Cruze adding yet another element to our model range in 2009, we look forward to consolidating our success – while 2009 won’t be easy for any car manufacturer, we think Chevrolet’s reputation for astounding value and durable, high quality cars will have great appeal in a market where people are keeping a closer eye than ever on their motoring costs.”
The 2008 fiigure beats 2..7, a previous record year, when 19,356 Chevrolets were sold.
