VW Golf Swoops Award

The new VW Golf in many ways is the perfect company car: efficient, aspirational, classy, packed with advanced technology, practical and offering both great RVs and impressive whole-life costs, the hatchback genuinely ticks all boxes.
Launched in the here in the UK early 2013, this seventh-generation Golf is typically evolutionary, but just like the sixth-generation car, improves on the previous model in every area.

There is one area where the latest new VW Golf has made a huge step forward, which is in the handling and sprightliness of the newest Golf, achieved partly through a weight-loss plan that shaved near to 100kg off the new model.
It's a obvious difference in terms of driving experience and helping to bring emissions down even more - the most efficient 110hp Bluemotion version is now at a hugely impressive 85g/km, the standard 105hp 1.6 diesel just breaches 100g/km, and the 150hp 2.0-litre is available as low as 106g/km.
Other engines include the new 1.2 and 1.4 TSI petrol powertrains, both manual and highly rated DSG twin-clutch automatic transmissions are available, with all bar the performance models getting under 120g/km.
Despite being light on its feet, the new Golf has 30 litres of extra boot space and improved passenger space over its predecessor.
It also offers impressive levels of standard equipment, including adaptive cruise control as standard from SE trim, and a touch-screen for the audio and climate settings.

VW is again expanding the range in the wake of the three- and five-door launches 12 months ago, they have already added Bluemotion, GTi hot-hatch and GTD performance diesel models, the latest combining 184hp of power and performance hatchback styling with just 109g/km of CO2 emissions.
It seems the range will develop further in the coming years, with a range-topping performance R model next on the agenda, as well as a little more practical Golf Plus and the Golf Cabriolet also on the way. A new electric e-Golf will arrive later on this year.

All this is without reflecting upon sales success that regularly sees the Golf in the top five for UK fleet registrations.
There are many reasons why the Golf was the logical and worthy choice for 2014 Business Car of the Year. The voting showed how well loved and respected the car is within the UK fleet community.
