Since 2008 over 1,000,000 units have been sold and over 4,500,000 total sales since the hatchback first arrived back in 1976, just over forty years ago. The impressive figures have made this top-selling supermini Britain’s best-selling car overall for the past eight years.
120,000 units sold over the past 12 months, of which 70 per cent were 5 doors, 90 per cent were petrol while the most popular trim was Zetec with 60% and then Titanium with 20 percent of the 120,000.
The Very First All New Ford Fiesta
The very first Fiesta to be unloaded at the dock was a 5 door, Titanium with premium Bang & Olufsen PLAY audio system with 10 speakers including a subwoofer and 675 Watts of power. The award winning 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine with 100ps is under the bonnet and the 8 inch touch-screen sync 3 in the centre of the dash for infotainment.
Ford performance are working on a new Fiesta ST to add to the range, Ford gave us a sneak peak at the 2017 Geneva motor show earlier this year featuring a three cylinder 1.5 litre engine with 200PS and 290 Nm of torque. The model pencilled in for an early 2018 release.
The latest Fiesta also features Emergency Brake Assist as standard across all the trim levels, previously an option on the last model, this automatic braking technology will save you from hitting the car in front in a low speed environment.
Andy Barratt, Ford of Britain chairman and managing director, said: “This year the eyes of the car world in our market are on new Fiesta as it takes over the reign as top seller. Having seen all Fiesta models coming over the next nine months, I’m confident it will remain on top.”
With the popular Zetec and Titanium models available straight away for the mainstream buyers, Ford will also follow this up with the impressive Vignale and very sporty ST Line trims featuring the more powerful 140PS 1.0 litre EcoBoost in autumn.
