New Nissan Qashqai Gets Top NCAP Safety Marks

Published Date: 21st Dec 2021

The all-new Nissan Qashqai has scored the full 5 stars by the European New Car Assessment (NCAP) Safety Program, under the new 2020-2022 more stringent regulations.

The achievements include a 91% score for adult and child occupancy protection, putting it amongst the best in class. A score of 95% was also achieved for Safety Assist and 70% for vulnerable road users protection.

NCAP Adult & Child Occupant Protection

2021 Qashqai - NCAP five stars

The Qashqai scored a near perfect score of 23.8 out of 24 for adult and child occupant protection.

The Qashqai’s new CMF-C platform is built with ultra-high strength steel in key areas that makes the Qashqai more rigid yet able to absorb impact in critical areas to protect driver and passengers in the vehicle. Despite the additional strength, the overall body-in-weight is 60kg lighter than the old Qashqai.

A new addition to the Qashqai is a central airbag between driver and front passenger that can prevent banging of heads in the event of a side impact. The new central airbag helped the Qashqai score the full 16 points in the NCAP lateral crash test.

NCAP Safety Assist

NCAP’S Safety Assist score is an examination of the vehicle’s key driver assistance technologies that encourage/aid safe driving and help avoid/mitigate accidents.

The new Qashqai scored an impressive 95% for safety assist, thanks to a host of the latest hi-tech driver aids.

New technologies with the latest Qashqai include a Head-up display that displays information like current speed, navigation, and even current speed limit. Head up displays are projected on the windscreen, meaning the information is much closer to the driver's natural eye-level so they can keep their concentration on the road.

Other new technologies include Intelligent Headlights that can automatically adjust the shape and strength of the beam to avoid dazzling oncoming drivers where high beam is being used on dark roads.

Other driver aids that help avoid a collision are Blind Spot Intervention, which can detect vehicles in the driver’s blind spot and even intervene and steer the vehicle back into its lane away from a potential collision.

The new Qashqai also includes Rear Cross Traffic Alert which detects crossing traffic and can apply the brakes to prevent a collision when reversing (out of a parking space for example).

NCAP Vulnerable Road Users Protection

The Qashqai scored 70% on cyclist and pedestrian protection.

Across the range, as standard on all new Qashqai models, is Intelligent Emergency Braking. The system warns the driver and can automatically apply the brakes to avoid a collision with another vehicle, pedestrian, or cyclist.

The all-new Qashqai features a host of updates and improvements including new eye-catching coupe-like styling, improved interior build quality and a new infotainment system with larger screen. You can read more about the new 2022 Nissan Qashqai updates here.
