The 5 Basic MINI Models

3-Door Hatchback

The smallest of the MINIs and as close you’ll get to the original MINI experience, fling it round corners like a go kart, a great around town option and perfect if you mainly travel alone or with a single passenger.

5-Door Hatchback

Bigger sibling of the 3-door, more convenience if you frequently travel with rear passengers with some additional leg room but still retains the go kart like agility meaning it’s a joy to drive.

MINI Clubman

The Clubman features the iconic rear split doors and it is 270mm longer than the 5-door hatchback model meaning some additional leg room for rear passengers and more boot space.

MINI Convertible

The MINI convertible is ultra-cool, the electrically-powered soft top folds down in 18 seconds.

MINI Countryman

A MINI with a Crossover flavour, the largest of the models, it features rugged/SUV inspired styling like moulded wheel arches, a higher driving position and optional 4-wheel drive.

The Countryman is the best option if you want to squeeze some adults in the back and offers the most generous boot space of the range; 450 litres with the rear seats up and 1,390 litres with them folded down.

Unravelling the MINI Naming Convention

The model range consists of a ‘twin’ naming convention, which indicates the engine/performance and how well equipped the model is. For example, combining a performance and Style option you get a model like ‘MINI One Classic’.

Performance/Engine Options:

‘ONE’ Models

ONE is an option on 3-door and 5-door MINI hatchback models coupled with the ‘Classic’ style (see Style options further down). They are equipped with a 1.5-litre (102bhp) 3-cylinder twin-turbo petrol engine. 0-62mph is a fraction over 10 seconds at its fastest, CO2 emissions are as low as 117g/km and fuel economy up to  52mpg (combined).

‘Cooper’ Models

Available with all MINI models, the Cooper is equipped with a 1.5-litre (136bhp) 3-cylinder petrol engine which offers a handy blend of power and fuel economy. It can cover 0-62mph in a fun 8 seconds and fuel economoy is up to 52mpg (combined).

‘Cooper D’ Models

Available only with MINI Clubman and MINI Countryman models, Cooper D models are equipped with a 2.0-litre (150bhp) twin-turbo, 4-cylinder diesel engine delivering higher torque and a good mix of performance and running costs with 0-62mph around 9 seconds and fuel economy up to 62mpg (combined).

‘Cooper S’ (Petrol) Models

Available with all MINI models, the Cooper S is the performance option, equipped with a 2.0-litre (192bhp) twin-turbo, 4 cylinder engine, it has a top speed of up tp 146mph and can get you from 0-62mph in under 7 seconds.

‘Cooper S’ (Plug-in Hybrid) Models

Currently only available on Countryman models it combines a 3-cylinder petrol engine (136 bhp) with a 95bhp/70-kW electric motor. The MINI Countryman Plug-in Hybrid has a full electric range of up to 26 miles and matches the Cooper S petrol models for 0-62mph acceleration whilst the top speed is lower at 123mph.

Classic, Sport and Exlcusive models

MINI ‘Classic’ Models

Essentially the entry-level model the spec/guide is as follows:

Exterior:

  • 15 or 16-inch steel wheels on MINI One models
  • 15 or 16-inch alloy wheels on Cooper models
  • 16 or 17-inch alloy wheels on Cooper S models

Interior:

  • Standard cloth seats on One, Cooper and Countryman Hybrid models
  • Sports seats on Cooper S models
  • Standard steering wheel
  • Sport leather steering wheel on all models except MINI 3-door and 5-door hatchback models and Convertible Cooper models.

MINI ‘Sport’ Models

As the name suggests the sportier option, integrating some features you’ll see on the John Copper Works model.

Exterior:

  • 17 or 18-inch John Cooper Works alloy wheels (19-inch alloys as an option)
  • John Cooper Works aerodynamic kit
  • John Cooper Works spoiler (not available with convertible models)

Interior

  • John Cooper Works sports seats
  • John Cooper Works leather steering wheel
  • John Cooper Works door-sill finish
  • Anthracite heading
  • Cruise control with braking assist
  • Performance control
  • Rear parking sensor (only on Clubman models)

MINI Optional Packs

Depending on the model you choose you’ll be able to equip your MINI to your spec by adding any of the following pack (bear in mind, depending on your model some of these features may already be standard):

Driving Assistance Pack

Driving Assistance PackCamera based driver and safety aids that includes speed limit recognition, pedestrian detection, city braking assistant, automatic emergency braking and collision warning system.

Comfort Pack

The comfort pack adds heated front seats, automatic air conditioning, rear parking sensors, passenger seat height adjustment, storage pack (includes a two-compartment boot floor, eyelets to secure objects and a boot net), front central armrest and luxury velour floor mats.

*Note: Countryman and Convertible models already include rear parking sensor as standard.

Comfort Pack Plus

Includes all the features of the Comfort Pack and the addition of a rear-view camera, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, front parking sensors (in addition to rear sensor) and parking assist which makes parallel parking a breeze.

Navigation Pack*Note: The Navigation Pack is standard on MINI Clubman and MINI Countryman, the pack includes MINI Navigation system via 6.5-inch display, MINI Connected Services  (vehicle status, destination, favourite places, MINI Find Mate, calendar integration, share your arrival time, time to destination notifications, MINI Connected ready-apps, Apple CarPlay integration and Visual Boost Radio.

The Navigation Plus Pack builds on the Navigation Pack with the addition of the MINI Navigation system integrated into a larger 8.8inch display, real time traffic information and wireless charging.

It also adds a host of ‘Connected’ and online services including online search, weather information, points of interest search, flight information, ability to book hotel rooms and Amazon Alexa Assistant. Remote functions are also available from your smartphone (subject to compatible phone) like the ability to lock/unlock the doors remotely and start the engine/heat up the cabin.
