Volkswagen Set To Launch New Tiguan

Published Date: 5th Jul 2007

VW’s new 4x4 model, the Tiguan, is due to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2007 and is due to be on sale in the UK later in 2007 or early 2008.

It is set to rival other 4x4 vehicles like the Land Rover Freelander and BMW X3. In size, the new VW Tiguan is slightly larger than the VW Touran and, with raised suspension and large tyres it a has the same styling as the larger VW Touareg.

The new VW Tiguan will initially be available in two engine sizes – a 1.4 litre 150 PS TSI petrol engine and a 2.0 litre 140 PS TDI diesel engine. After the initial launch other engine types will be available later in 2008 – two additional petrol engines plus a 170 PS TDI diesel.

The new Tiguan will have a choice of front ends – either for road users or for drivers who need better off-road agility. Once the off-road mode is selected a standard hill descent control system is activated plus ABS, throttle settings and automatic gearbox are all tuned to make the best of the off-road driving experience.

Other innovations in the new Tiguan include Park Assist which enables this 4x4 to steer itself into a parking space.
