Toyota Prius Could Get Even Greener

Published Date: 2nd Sep 2007

Toyota is testing a home charging option of the Prius in Japan. If successfully tested, it will be available for sale as the Plug-in HV.

It will be using the same batteries as current Toyota Prius models but owners will be able to top the battery up at home, enabling the Prius to go further and faster without having to use the petrol motor.

This would mean an even greener Toyota Prius which has already seen sales soar across the globe. The Plug-in HV would produce lower CO2 emissions and better fuel efficiency plus Toyota engineers claim that it will be able to cruise on just battery power for eight miles – up from just under 2 miles.

If trials are successful in Japan, further trials will then take place in the USA and Europe. The Toyota Prius Plug-in HV is then set to go on sale within 2 years.
