Tesco Car Insurance Courtesy Car Warning

Published Date: 3rd May 2006

Tesco Car Insurance has warned drivers of the "myth" of free courtesy cars.

This is despite the fact most insurers charge for courtesy cars in their claims costs, which are then used to calculate overall premiums.

Allan Burns, head of Tesco Car Insurance, commented: "Many insurers cleverly position a courtesy car as a free service, but in reality someone has to pay for it and that someone is ultimately going to be the customer."

Mr Burns cited a list of the top five car insurers, all of whom describe the cost of the courtesy car as free, which hides that the cost is covered in the premium.

The research from Tesco Car Insurance also suggests that most drivers are unaware that courtesy cars are not guaranteed from insurers.
