Published Date: 20th Nov 2017

Seat has now released details of the highly anticipated exclusive Cupra R

A limited production run has been confirmed for the eagerly-awaited Leon CUPRA R, a new model that combines performance and power with elegant styling and a new premium finish – the likes of which have never been seen on a Seat Leon. 799 models are due to be produced for global sale in the first 6 months of 2018, of which just 24 will be destined for the UK.

Ever since it was showcased at the 2017 Frankfurt Motorshow, SEAT have been drowning in customer interest. And it’s easy to see why. The Leon CUPRA 300 is set on a great platform and Seat’s Research and Development team have taken full advantage by upgrading and customising the hot hatch with a series of enhancements to create the finest Leon road car to date, the new limited edition CUPRA R.

New improvements on the technical side include a new steering system, modified camber angles on the front axle, four piston Brembo brake callipers and a vocally pleasing retuned exhaust system with even racier notes. When it comes to performance, the new Leon CUPRA R is limited to 155 mph and will rocket from 0-62 mph in as little as 5.8 seconds.

Benefiting from the same engine as it’s Volkswagen counterpart, the new front-wheel-drive SEAT Leon CUPRA R will have the same 310PS power unit you find in the Golf R and will be available with a six-speed manual gearbox. Only two metallic paint options are available in the shape of Monsoon Grey and Midnight Black, both of which come at no extra cost.

The New Leon CUPRA looks racier than ever, with carbon fibre details for the rear spoiler, lower lip spoiler, side skirts and a new rear diffuser. The newly extended wheel arches and the front also benefit from a more powerful design around the air intakes. Copper inserts are also a key theme and come into play on the door mirrors, rear lettering, and black and copper 19-inch alloy wheels.

As the flagship of the Leon CUPRA range, the R also benefits from an upgraded interior cabin. The copper colouring continues inside, being carried through to the detailing on the centre console, dashboard, door panel stitching and steering wheel CUPRA R logo. Rounding off the sport-oriented look and feel is Alcantara on the steering wheel, gearstick and front bucket seats with copper stitching. Underlining their exclusivity, each car will also feature a numbered plaque ranging from 1 to 799.
