Sales Up For Toyota and Lexus Hybrids

Sales of Toyota and Lexus hybrid models have recently exceeded 1 million. Hybrid vehicles have been proving popular in many countries but have been particularly popular in North America and Japan.

The highest selling hybrid model, the Toyota Prius has now sold 758,000 models worldwide since it was launched in 1997. Other hybrid models like the Lexus RX400h and Lexus GS450h are also selling well. In the UK Toyota Prius sales have now reached 13,826 since 2000.

Toyota has calculated that, in comparison to a similar class petrol engine of the same size and driving performance, it has reduced CO2 emissions by 3.5 million tons with its hybrid engines.

Toyota will be extending its hybrid system to other Toyota models.
