Renault-Nissan and Daimler sign strategic alliance

The Renault-Nissan Alliance and Daimler have signed a three-way partnership which includes an immediate plan to collaborate on future cars.

Immediate product plans include platform sharing on the next-generation Smart ForTwo and Renault Twingo, including electric versions, as well as expanding the Smart and Twingo families.

Diesel and petrol engines from the Renault-Nissan Alliance will be used in the new Smart car and will be modified to include Mercedes-Benz characteristics for future premium compact cars.

In return Daimler will share its petrol and diesel engines with Infiniti, Nissan's luxury marque.

Renault-Nissan will also supply diesel engines and transmissions for the Mercedes-Benz Vito
