New Website Ranks CO2 Car Emissions

Published Date: 20th Aug 2007

The Department for Transport has just launched a new website which lists the top ten lowest CO2 emitting cars. Cars are grouped into categories, eg, Supermini, and drivers can then find the lowest emitting cars in the category they are interested in.

The Chief Executive of the Society for Motor Manufacturers and Traders, Christopher Macgowan, commented ‘We welcome the initiative. Consumers need to make the connection between choosing the most CO2 efficient cars and lower cost motoring. They also need to be clear on the practical steps to be taken to limit their carbon footprint in action, whatever vehicle they drive.’

The colour-coded new car label shows green to red banding in a similar format to that used to indicate energy efficiency in electrical white goods. Information on the website, Toyota Hybrid
