Published Date: 18th Dec 2008

VW have unveiled the second-generation Golf Plus, the Scirocco Studio R and the LPG-powered Golf BiFuel.

The 2nd generation Golf Plus is like its predecessor in the fact that it is slightly bigger than the Golf  hatchback, somewhere between the Golf and the Touran. The car will be launched in the UK in Spring 2009. There will be a range of engines to be confirmed, although we know one petrol engine will be the 1.4 TSI. The petrol and diesel models will have either 5 or 6 speed manual gearboxes and 6 or 7 speed DSG semi-automatic transmission. There will also be two new options of a Rear Parking Camera and ParkAssist. See uk car discounts latest prices on cheap new vw golf plus

The Sporty Studio R Scirocco has also blown people away at Bologna Motor Show. Although it wont go on sale until 2010, it has people very excited. The car includes a full body kit with a deep front spitter, 19” alloy wheels and a huge rear wing. The car comes in white with red and green detailing to the wing mirrors and Bologna 08 badging. It has an impressive high performance 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine giving 262 bhp. It also includes twin exhaust pipes, four piston brake callipers and sport suspension with black and white Nappa leather Recarro seats. The Golf BiFuel has been specifically developed to run on both LPG and conventional petrol. The hatchback has a 1.6 litre four-cylinder 98 PS engine, which gives 39.8 mpg and 149 g/km of CO2 when driven in petrol mode. When run on LPG the emissions reduce by 10% and has a range of more than 260 miles. The new engine has been extensively tested and has proved a lot safer than an aftersale LPG conversion.
