The order books are now open for the new Volvo S90 and V90 R-design models. Prices in the UK are set to be announced soon, in Q3 2016.

So what has changed on the R-Design V90 and S90?

Straight away on the car you can see the use of black to the exterior of the new cars. A newly designed front end that incorporates a piano black grille with the front fog lights integrated into the spoiler. Also unique to the R-Design range is the new five spoke matte black diamond cut alloys that add to the performance orientated look.

This look is continued into the cabin With R-design contoured sport seats, a newly designed sports steering wheel with carbon fibre effect trim. Other similar finishing touches include sports pedals, mats and a new ambient lighting system will come as standard on the R-Design.

The UK engine and transmission line up will remain the same with a D4 187bhp and a D5 with 232bhp. An eight-speed automatic gearbox is standard on both engines. The petrol T6 will also be available in the UK alongside the new T8 Twin-Engine Hybrid that will join the model range later.

Unfortunately there are no plans for any more power under the bonnet for the R-design models. But there is an engine software tweak available at a cost, from the Polestar Performance Division at Volvo.  All the software engine upgrades from polestar keep the same emission ratings, service intervals, fuel consumption and warranty with Volvo.

Volvo has teamed up with Swedish football Legend Zlatan Ibrahimovi? to promote the new cars in a commercial that debuted recently during the Euro 2016 football tournament.
