New Land Rover Discovery

The New Land Rover Discovery Sport has been unveiled with these official images plus details of the price, specifications and engine options.
Here is the new Land Rover Discovery Sport, the latest model in the second phase of Land Rover’s three-pillared new look plan. The new Discovery Sport will go on sale soon with the first deliveries expected early in 2015.
Just one engine unit and two gearboxes are initially offered with prices starting from £32,395 to £42,995 but the eD4 diesel will arrive later in the year with a price tag of just under £30,000. Trim levels run from SE, SE Tech (where satellite navigation is a standard feature), HSE and HSE Lux.
This latest Land Rover Discovery Sport model takes a very different approach to the Land Rover Freelander, but when compared with the new Jaguar XE the Discovery seems to be a poor relation. So there’s no all-new iQ platform and aluminium body – the Discovery Sport sits on a heavily modified version of the platform that’s used for the Freelander and Range Rover Evoque.
The Land Rover drives with a slick nine-speed auto or six-speed manual, four or two-wheel-drive versions, but emissions of 157g/km and a claimed average of 46mpg are nothing spectacular. Wait until later next year, though, and you can have a Sport with the new eD4 turbo diesel and emissions from around 119g/km.
However, the few negatives are unlikely to stop the many thousands who will flock to order another stunning Land Rover design from Gerry McGovern and his team. The model is longer, yet lower and narrower than the Freelander, and while clearly related to the new Range Rovers, shows the different direction the more leisure-orientated Discovery family is taking.
“It’s important to get the right level of differentiation between the families,” McGovern said. “The Discoveries are more of a radical departure than the Range Rovers, but we’re tailoring vehicles to individual customers’ needs. Existing Discovery owners told us they wanted something more premium and less brutal, so that’s what we’re delivering.”
