New Car Sales Continue To Grow in April

The positive outlook for new car registrations continued with April 2013 figures showing the strongest growth for 14 months according to the SMMT (The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders). Precise figures show a 14.8% upturn in April (163,357 new car registrations) and overall the first four months of this year have been very healthy showing  an increase in 2013 new car registrations by 8.9% (a total of 768,555 units). New Car Sales 2013

The healthy figures have been given a significant boost from private new car registrations with private sales up almost a third on April 2012. Small cars; the mini and supermini sectors performed particularly well again with both diesel units and some new fuel efficient small petrol cars boosting sales, many of these vehicles offer very low emissions and are road tax free/exempt with excellent fuel economy offer private buyers attractive low running costs.

Top of the best sellers in April is Britain’s favourite supermini the 2013 new Ford Fiesta, the latest incarnation of the Fiesta has received plaudits from motoring experts and the addition of the new road tax busting Fiesta Ecoboost petrol option should only further cement it’s popularity with the British public. The Vauxhall Corsa a favourite amongst driving instructors moves up to second in the best sellers in April with the Ford Focus dropping down to third with the VW Golf (4th) and Vauxhall Astra (5th), 6th in the best-sellers for April in the UK’s favourite crossover the Nissan Qashqai, 7th best-seller is the VW Polo and a new addition enters the top-ten best sellers; the trendy, retro Fiat 500, we are certainly noticing a lot of these eye-catching small cars  on the roads at the moment. The Peugeot 208 and new Aud A3 make up the final two places of Aprils’s best-sellers.

Overall in 2013 new car sales are dominated by Ford (Fiesta and Focus), Vauxhall (Astra and Corsa), Volkswagen (Golf and Polo) and Nissan (Qashqai and Juke) with each manufacturer featuring two vehicles in the top ten most popular new cars of 2013 so far.
