New Mercedes A Class Hot Hatch
Published Date: 12th Oct 2005
Mercedes has added a hot hatch option to its cheap new A-Class range.
The car offers a 2.0-litre turbo charged engine, 193bhp and 0-60 time of 7.5 seconds. Perfectionists can choose the car's Autotronic transmission option and shave an extra 0.2 of a second from this time.
In spite of the performance figures Mercedes claims that the new car will fit into insurance group 14E and deliver 34.9mpg, providing owners with relatively cheap running costs.
To cope with the improved performance figures the cheap new Mercedes A 200 turbo has received lowered sports suspension and a set of 215/40 ZR18 tyres on its 18-inch alloy wheels. Inside the car sports seats and lashings of aluminium trim remind the driver that this is no normal A-Class.
With a abundance of new hatchbacks hitting the market, including the cheap new Ford Focus ST and impressive new VW Golf GTi, Mercedes is hoping that its luxury and safety features will help it to stand out from the rapid crowd.
With ABS braking, ESP stability control and ASR skid control all coming as standard, managing to actually have an accident in the powerful new A-Class will be no mean feat.
Drivers who do, will find themselves and their passengers protected by front and lateral airbags.
