Land Rover Introduce Stop/Start System

Land Rover are going ‘Green’ and introducing their most fuel-efficient vehicle to date. The Freelander  2 TD4_e features a stop/start technology and launches in April 2009. It is claimed to be the first SUV (sport utility vehicle) in the world to have the system. See UK Car Discounts great deals on cheap new Landrover Freelander TD4 .

The stop/start feature will come as standard on the Freelander 2 TD4_e manual transmission models. The system will automatically shut down the engine when the car has stopped, the gearbox is in neutral and the clutch pedal is raised. The engine instantly restarts when you press the clutch and put the car into 1st gear. This makes stop start driving around town much more fuel efficient with lower CO2 emissions, due to the stationary car not using any fuel and emitting zero exhaust emissions.

Land Rover has reported that the CO2 emissions are reduced by 8% to 179g/km and the fuel economy comes in at 41.3mpg from 37.7mpg. Although the stop/start system automatically comes on with the ignition, there is a switch for the driver to turn off the system if they so require.

The Freelander 2 is also the first Landrover to comply with the EU Directive 2005/64/EC with regard to being 85% recyclable or reusable with another 10% by mass being recyclable or reusable at the end of the vehicles life.

This vehicle has got to be a winner for Landrover as more and more people around the world are becoming conscientious of their Carbon Footprint.
